You know, I've been thinking, I'm a 'down kind of guy'. Up or down, kind of like the glass is half full or half empty kind of thing. Don't get me wrong I'm not a depressed sort. I just like to think of myself as a little bit more analytical than your average Joe.

I'm not claiming any sort of brilliance here. I just happen to see the potential downside to things, especially when it comes to what can happen to my family, the markets, you know stuff like that.

My kids used to call me Mr. Safety. “Don't put yous socks on while coming down the stairs.”, “don't hold the knife by the blade.”, that kind of stuff. I know because I either did these things (multiple times) or saw someone else do them. There are things called axioms; things that will happen if you do this or that. I'm a believer in Einstein's other theory, “Stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results”.

Well, I'm the same way when it comes to behavior, I believe it is learned. Our family, our friends, our professors all influence the way we lean and think. We then go out in the world with our ears closed hunting for people, news and, yes, “hope and change” to support our feelings because, “Darn it, we are right”. No one likes to be wrong. We will all go along way to make sure that doesn't happen until we get 'mugged', the one thing we hate worse than being wrong.

Here's the point. Being a 'down kinda guy', my axiom is financial gravity always wins (I love that term and use it often). Balloons go up, up, up and away. Til they POP and gravity wins again. It would be nice if our lives were always going up, but up is only so high and down is inevitable at some point.

Our economic stupidity tells us that stimulus works and we need more and more. Taking from the successful and giving it to the unsuccessful only squanders the incentives of the successful. Trying to blow up a balloon with a vacuum and you should soon see, it ain't going to work.

We gotta stop the 'stupidity', get real, stop being complacent and do something different.

There, another 'rant' out of the way. Boy do I feel stupid. Einstein would be proud of me.
